S: Sure, please go ahead.
C: This size seems a little bit small. Have you got anything larger?
S: Wait a minute. Please try this on.
C: Thank you. This size is suitable. How do I look?

S: You look great wearing this coat and you look nice in white.

about 500yuan?

S: You get what you pay for. Actually, this is the latest model and it’s
really worth the price.

< Scene 1 >
Tom: Nice pen.
Gary: I got it over there. It’s a steal.
是近年流行用 it's a steal取代 it's cheap。
How much does it cost?
Gary: How much does this car cost?
Salesman: It comes to $ 15,000.
Gary: It’s a rip off.
It cost me an arm and a
leg。
Cost somebody an arm and a leg,要某人的一手一脚,真要命,引伸指“非常昂贵”。
It cost me an arm and a leg.
Chat With Foreigners
1. Excuse me, may I talk with you?
2. Is this your first trip to China?
3. Have you ever been to other parts of China?
4. What impressed you the most about China?
5. How long do you plan to stay?
6. Are you used to the food / weather here?
7. What do people my age love to do the most in your country?
(Practical Dialog):
Henry: a Chinese Jim: an American who travel around China
They meet in a Yangtze River Three Gorges scenic spot at night.
Henry: Excuse me, may I talk with you?
Jim: Sure. Glad to meet you.
Henry: It’s a pleasure to meet you. Welcome to China and enjoy your visit
here.
Jim: Thanks. I’m sure I will.
Henry: How was your trip?
Jim: It was wonderful.
Henry: What do you think of the Yangtze River Three Gorges?
Jim: It’s absolutely beautiful. The view is very nice here.
Henry: I’m glad to hear that. May I ask where you are from?
Jim: I’m from America.
Henry: That’s a great country and I’ve heard so much about it.
Jim: Thanks for saying so. China is great, too.
Henry: I suppose so. I’m a local person. I was born and raised in Chongqing. I
wonder where you were born and raised?
Jim: I was born and raised in New York. I have lived there for 25 years.
Henry: How lucky you are! Is this your first trip to China?
Jim: No. I’ve been here twice.
Henry: Have you ever been to other parts of China?
Jim: I’ve been to Xi’an, Beijing and Guilin.
Henry: What impressed you the most about China?
Jim: The population and development. China is changing every day and it’s
amazing. Frankly speaking, China has ancient culture and long, important
history and it’s incredible (五星级形容词,=unbelievable ). You know,
the Terra Cotta Warrior (兵马俑) in Xi’an is the most impressive thing
I’ve ever seen in my life.
Henry: Yeah. China’s population is billion and it’s one of the biggest
problems that the government has to solve. The Terra Cotta Warrior is one
of the 8 miracles in the world. Are you used to the food here?
Jim: To be honest, Chinese food is different from western food. So I’m not
used to it yet. But I’m trying to get used to it now.
Henry: Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it soon. How long do you plan to stay?
Jim: Probably 5 years. The point is that I’d like to stay as long as
I can, ‘cause China is really attractive and the culture is
really different from that of our country and it’s incredible.
Henry: It sure is. That’s why you came here to appreciate our local culture.
And I think the only way to really know another culture is to learn the
language, because language is the carrier of culture. What’s your
opinion?
Jim: I agree with you completely. “Learn one more language, live one more
life.”
Henry: Absolutely. I couldn’t agree more. So I wonder if you’re working on
your Chinese?
Jim: Sure, I try my best to learn Chinese but it’s very slow. Chinese is the
most difficult language I’ve ever learnt.
Henry: That’s interesting. Almost every foreigner I’ve met before thought so,
too. Anyway, don’t worry, things will work out.
Jim: Thanks for cheering me up.
Henry: My pleasure. What do people my age love to do the most in your country?
Jim: May I have your age, please?
Henry: I’m 25 years old.
Jim: Oh, That depends. Some young people like to attend party to have fun
together. Some have got married and enjoy their work.
Henry: Good. Just like us in China. I begin to think that human nature is
pretty much the same everywhere.
Jim: You said it.
Henry: Oh, Jim, I’m afraid I’ve got to go now. It’s very nice talking to you.
How can I get in touch with you?
Jim: Here’s my e-mail address: Jim_rose@
Henry: Thanks. Here’s mine: hotli2008@. Take it easy and enjoy
your stay here!
Jim: Thank you. I’m sure I will. Have a good evening!
Henry: The same to you. I hope I can see you again. Bye.
Jim: Bye.

Now it’s your turn to use this sentence pattern to make 3 sentences as
creative as you
can!
