What is a deferred payment credit
A deferred payment credit is available by deferred payment with the issuing bank or a nominated bank at a fixed time after the date of the bill of lading or after the presentation of documents.
开证行指定一家银行在受益人提交与信用证条款相符的单据（不含汇票）时，于将来某日付款的信用证。
Causes
This form was first introduced in order to discourage Japanese imports from aboard, Japanese bank refused to issue credits with time darfts and only issued credits with sight darfts. As a result, Japanese importers developed “deferred sight credit” ,so that the date of deferred payments could be fixed within the period when the credit was valid.

有的国家和地区颁布的票据法规定，凡超过六个月期限的承兑汇票，或超过一年以上的远期汇票，不得在市场上贴现。同时对远期汇票的期限不得超过180天，在这种情况下为了解决远期至一年以上或数年时间后的支付方式，在国际贸易的实践中，延期付款信用证就应运而生，而且被广泛予以运用

To the exporter,a deferred payment credit is not as good as an acceptance credit under which a time draft is drawn on the drawee bank .
Under an acceptance credit ,the beneficiary obtains an accepted draft that can be readily negotiated or discounted .Under a deferred payment credit ,however, the exporterdoes not have a negotiable instrument ,and is extending credit to the importer .Thus,his funds will be undoubtedly tied up.
出口商需承担较大风险,通常适用于进口商信誉较好的情形.

当受益人提示符合信用证规定的单据时,不能立即获得付款而是要等到根据信用证规定而确定的到期日才能获得付款.

延期付款信用证有两个特点：其一是板期，即受益人交单时即已确定付款到期日；其二是远期付款不需汇票。由于不需要提供汇票而有效规避了印花税，延期付款信用证曾在欧洲得到普及。
