To minimize the weighing and transporting vehicle time as well as quay-crane handling time, a multi-objective optimization model is established. The optimal operational sequence of hatches in a bay is obtained, as well as the shortest handling time of vehicle and quay-crane. Numerical tests, which are compared against the traditional operations, illustrate the feasibility and efficiency of synchronized container loading and unloading method based on simultaneous hatch operation.
