1、课程能力目标
1)总体目标
通过本课程的学习,首先能从专业的英语角度认识货代的工作性质、任务,能掌握国际货代业务的海运、空运、贸易等环节货代所需的英语语言,为从事国际货代工作打下基础。

Step 1 Leading in. (10 minutes)
Ask Ss to recall the knowledge they have learn about what the Trade Terms is in Chinese by the following questions.
Ask them the following questions:
Have you ever made any quotation?
What should you do when you make the quotation? How many parts should include?
Step 2 Quotation. (10minutes)
Let Ss know that a quotation should include three parts: the Currency, the amount and Trade Terms. And the most important part of the quotation is Trade Terms. It has great impact for the quotation. It must include the Trade Terms when making the quotation.
Step 3 Analyse the Six most important Trade Terms to Ss one by one. Pay attention to the detail of each Trade Terms. (25 minutes)

“on or about” means shipment is to be made during the period from five days before to five days after the specified date, both end days included.
e. g.: “on or about July 20,2008” means from July 15, 2008 to July 25, 2008.
The words “to”, “until”, “till”, “from” will include the date mentioned.
e. g.: “to July 15, 2008”, “until July 15, 2008”, “till July 15, 2008”, “from July 15, 2008” all the expression means include the day July 15, 2008.
3. The words “after” and “before” means to exclude the date mentioned.
e. g.: “before July 15, 2008”and “after July 15, 2008” all the expression means to exclude the day July 15, 2008.
4. The term “first half” means the 1st to the 15th. And the term “second half” means the 16th to the last day of such month, all dates inclusive.
e. g.: First half of February means the 1st to the 15th of February and the date 1st and 15th include.
Second half of February means the 16th to 28th of February and the date 16th and 28th include.
The terms “beginning”, “middle” or “end” of a month means respectively as the 1st to the 10th, the 11th to the 20th and the 21st to the last day of such month, all dates inclusive.
.: “the beginning of Febuary” means the 1st to 10th, the date 1st and 10th is include.
“the middle of Febuary” means the 11st to 20th, the date 11th and 20th is include.
“the end of Febuary” means the 21st to 28th, the date 21st and 28th is include.

Step 3 Review the main parts of Letter of Credit which we have learned last week and pay attention to the main parts of it. (20 minutes)
Step 4 Show Ss an original copy of Letter of Credit and ask them find out the main parties of this Letter of Credit. (15 minutes)
Second Period
Step 5 Ask Ss to translate the whole Letter of Credit and hand it in when finish. T can help Ss when they have problems. (45 minutes)

First Period
Step 1 Review. (5 minutes)
Check the two sentences which I gave last time and pay attention to the special terms.
Step 2 Give Ss two sentences about logistics. Explain each sentences and the special terms. Ask them to remember these sentences and will check next time. (5 minutes)
Step 3 Lead-in. (15 minutes)
1. Have you ever written a Chinese letter?
2. What's the main part of a Chinese letter?
3. Ask one student to make the layout of a Chinese letter.
Step 4 Compare with the layout of Chinese letter. Tell Ss the main parts of an English business letter. (30 minutes)
1. Heading (letterhead): contains the company's name, address & post code, telephone & fax number, possible the name of the chief executive, and business scopes. Sometimes a trademark or slogan. In a words, it contains the company's information.
2. Date: two standard form: May 6, 2002 (American form); 1st Oct., 2002 (British form).
3. Inside Name and Address:
Name of receiver
Title of receiver
Name of his (her) company
Street number or name
City, State (Province) and post code
Country of destination (if international)
Ask one S to come to the blackboard and write one "inside name and address" for example.
For example, I need to write one letter to the Personal Manager of Dell company, Mr. Jim Green. And his office is in USA, New York. The address is the fifth Street. No. 21A. The code number is 10017. How to write this information in English business letter?
The correct answer is as follow:

4. Salutation: a greeting to the receiver. Begin the salutation with "Dear" and end with a colon or comma, even no punctuation at all.
5. Subject Line (Caption): used to summarize the topic of your latter and immediately tells what the letter is about.
Second Period
6. Body of the Letter: arrange the long letters well in several paragraphs, each one expressing a main idea.
7. Complimentary Close: Yours Sincerely, Sincerely Yours, Truly Yours, Yours Faithfully, Respectfully, Very Cordially Yours, Best Wishes and Best Regards.
8. Signature: should have the writer's name typewritten below his signature in case of the illegible handwriting.
Step 5 After learning the main parts of business letter, do you know the position of each parts? I would like to invite one students to have a try. There are two kinds of layout for business letter. One is block style, another is indented style. Show Ss the two kinds of layout by drawing letters on blackboard. Correct S's faults when introduce the two kinds of layout. Write the two layout on the blackboard and compared them. (30 minutes (35 minutes)

Step 5 Tell Ss the common layout of the body part. The first paragraph: tell the receiver where you get his/her information. The second paragraph: the thing you want to tell him/her. The third paragraph: ending. (5 minutes)
Step 6 Ask Ss to write one application letter according to the information given by T. Give Ss 40 minutes to write the letter. Please pay attention to the layout of the letter. After writing, hand in the letter. (40 minutes)
